Rechristened Platinum Etios in India in its new avatar, the family sedan is available in VX, V, and G variants. New Platinum Etios is available in a price band of Rs. 643,000 to Rs. 774,000 for its petrol range, and Rs. 756,000 to Rs. 887,000 Diesel (Ex showroom Mumbai).
Design & Interiors
On the outside, Toyota Platinum Etios has a new front and rear bumper, and new front grille. The fog lamp bezel has been changed, and rear chrome garnish with reflectors is added. Overall, the quality of the car has improved, giving it a very premium feel.
Platinum Etios interior now features a foldable rear arm rest. Etios’ best in class cabin space is complemented with a dual tone instrument panel in black and ivory. The ivory theme extends to seat fabric. The dash sees an Optitron combimeter, and rear seats are foldable.
All three rear seats have a removable headrest designed to improve comfort and reduce injury in case of a collision. The new central locking system is conveniently placed on the instrument panel to ensure speedy unlocking if there is a collision.
Features
Optional reverse parking sensors making parking in tight spots easy to manage. Steering mounted audio controls are easy to access making each drive safer. Electrically foldable ORVMs make navigating tight corners smoother, and going through narrow lanes a tad bit easier to avoid contact. AC with multi-directional vents offer effective cooling through a 360 degrees rotating function.
Safety
Platinum Etios focuses on its design language, and premium styling and new interiors. The family car offers a host of necessary safety features. In addition to ABS and EBD, dual front airbags for driver and passenger are a standard fitment.
The inclusion of ABS doesn’t only make the new Platinum Etios sedan feature laden but gives Toyota India the distinction of offering all its cars with Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) as standard across the portfolio and all car crades.
Dual ISOFIX child seat locks are included. Each of the 5 Seats use 3 point ELR (Emergency Locking Retractor ) Seatbelts. Front seats use Pre Tensioner and Force Limiter (PTFL) on the seatbelts.
New Platinum Etios sedan is also the safest car in the segment, scoring a 4 star safety rating from GNCAP.
Engine & Mileage
Powering the new Platinum Etios is a 1.5 liter petrol engine generating 88 bhp and 132 Nm. It also gets a diesel engine option in the form of 1.4 liter CRDi generating 67 hhp and 170 Nm torque. Both engines are mated to a five speed manual gearbox. Petrol Platinum Etios delivers mileage of 16.78 kmpl while the diesel variant delivers 23.59 kmpl as per ARAI test cycle.

Etios in India
New Platinum Etios is designed for the Indian market and built on the Corolla Altis assembly line. Etios was first launched in India in 2010. In its new avatar, Platinum Etios continues to meet larger cabin and luggage space requirements. Indian engineers have worked on the Etios upgrade. Customer feedback has been essential for the local team to work on feedback to add and redesign features. The driver’s seat is height adjustable. A cooling glove box helps keep maintain beverage temperature about 10 degrees lower than cabin temperature.
