Mahindra Scorpio Intelli-Hybrid to offer more efficient run

Mahindra and Mahindra have been working on a new hybrid technology for Scorpio for some time now. Dubbed Intelli-Hybrid, the system will be able to electrically assist the engine for a more efficient run.
This new tech is much more advanced than the Micro-Hybrid tech which is currently on offer with Mahindra cars. Micro-Hybrid is just a basic auto engine start/stop feature, while the Intelli-Hybrid is more like Maruti’s SHVS.
Mahindra Intelli-Hybrid technology will be offered with a 2.2-liter diesel engine as well as with the new 1.99-liter diesel engine for customers in Delhi and NCR. It includes brake energy recuperation, a larger capacity battery pack and integrated starter motor, which will also function as an alternator, besides an electric motor. However, Mahindra Scorpio SUV will not be able to operate solely on electric power as the electric motor will function as an assistant.
Following introduction of this new technology, fuel efficiency of Mahindra Scorpio SUV is increased by 7%. New Mahindra Scorpio with Intelli-Hybrid tech will also comply with NEMMP (National Electric Mobility Mission Plan) which offers incentives to electric and hybrid powered vehicles with cuts in excise duty. Mahindra has not revealed price of all variants, but confirmed that the base 1.99L S4 variant will be priced from INR 9.35 lakh (ex-Delhi), while the top of the line S10-2WD (Manual Transmission) variant will cost INR 12.84 lakh, ex-Navi Mumbai.
Speaking about the introduction of Scorpio with Intelli-Hybrid, Pravin Shah, President & Chief Executive (Automotive), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. said, “As an organisation that places keen emphasis on sustainability and eco-friendly practices, across every process and product, we are proud to introduce mild hybrid technology on the Scorpio. By reducing fuel consumption, Intelli-Hybrid helps Scorpio owners contribute towards a cleaner and greener tomorrow.”
Set exclusively for the Scorpio as of now, the new technology could be making its way to other Mahindra models in the future.
