New Variants, Facelifts And Performance Versions Of Existing Cars Are On Their Way
Volvo India just launched the S90 luxury sedan in India and it looks like the launch offensive is just going to get stronger. Insider sources tell us the Swedish automaker has at least 5 new launches in store for us.
The models in question are the XC90 R-Design, updated V40 & V40 Cross Country along with a performance-spec Polestar model, most likely the S60. What’s more is that the brand is looking to enter the largely untouched station-wagon space with the V90 Cross Country.
Here’s a quick look at the highlights:
XC90 R-Design
Volvo already offers 2 variants of the standard 7-seater XC90 SUV – Momentum (Rs 70.96 lakh ex-showroom Delhi) and Inscription (Rs 82.90 lakh ex-showroom Delhi). The R-Design is a sportier looking version of the SUV and gets features like sports seats with leather/nubuck upholstery, black headlining, a black mesh front grille and matte silver wing mirrors. It also gets silk metal surrounds for the front grille and windows, 20-inch alloy wheels, along with R-Design spec details for the gear lever, floor pedals, floor mats, illuminated tread plates and even the remote control.
V40 and V40 Cross Country facelifts
The most affordable Volvos received facelifts earlier this year. Highlights include the new family look fascia complete with the ‘Thor’s Hammer’ daytime running LEDs, new front grille and updated design for the Volvo badge. The cars also get a new range of colour options, new wheel designs and variant badges at the rear. New interior trim elements like milled aluminium, black grid aluminium and stealth aluminium will also be offered, along with the new ‘City Weave’ upholstery.
S60 Polestar
The S60 sedan is already available in the T6 variant that makes over 300PS/400Nm, but Volvo is expected to take its performance game up a notch with the launch of the S60 Polestar. The speed-hungry sedan’s 2.0-litre Drive-E 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine makes 367PS of power and 467Nm of torque. Good enough for a 0-100kmph time of 4.7 seconds!
V90 Cross Country
A unique launch will be the V90 Cross Country wagon. Based on the same scalable product architecture (SPA) as the S90 and XC90, the V90 CC gets the practicality of a station-wagon, with touches like 65mm of added ground clearance and body-cladding to butch things up. It won’t be a performance estate like the RS6 Avant and will most likely be offered with the same 'D4' diesel engine as the S90 that makes 190PS/400Nm, paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
While the V90 Cross Country is slated for a launch in mid-2017, the others could be launched within the next 2-3 months.
