Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has partnered with Eco Fuel to launch CNG-kits for two-wheelers. Eco Fuel is the Indian partners of Lovato, Italy which are known for its LPG and CNG conversion kits for cars.

The CNG kit has two CNG cylinders that have a combined capacity of 1.2 kg. Now a typical scooter is expected to run 90 kilometres on one kg of CNG. With the 1.2kg capacity, it should give scooters a range of 120 to 130 kilometres. Running a scooter on CNG is quite economical as well when you factor in the running cost of an equivalent petrol-powered scooter. A CNG powered scooter approximately costs 60 paise per kilometer for a single fill. The cylinders sit in the front apron of the scooter and eats up a bit of the footwell space.

While Lovato will supply and retrofit the CNG kits, MNG will take care of the CNG filling business. They plan to increase the number of CNG filling stations to reduce queues as a majority of users using the existing CNG setup are taxi operators and rickshaws. MGN also launched the MGN connect app which based on your location shows the nearest CNG filling station.

As part of this initiative, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Petroleum and Natural Gas Shri. Dharmendra Pradhan launched 25 CNG powered bikes in a function in Mumbai yesterday. Dharmendra Pradhan also launched e-wallet payments system for filling CNG

Speaking at the occasion, Dharmendra Pradhan saud, “The launch of CNG conversion should allow more than 36 lakhs two wheelers in the Mumbai Metropolitan region to opt for this eco-friendly fuel. In the last few years CNG powered vehicles have grown in Mumbai Metropolitan Region given the fuel economics and eco-friendly nature of CNG.”

The kits cost RS 15,000 and you can get the kit fitted if you are using one of the following scooters.
