The very first set of spy pictures of the heavily camouflaged test mule of the next-gen Vento (Polo-based sedan) has rolled in from Brazil. Like the current model, the new-gen Vento will be based on the upcoming 2018 Polo, which is expected to make its global debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show in March.

The upcoming sixth-generation Polo was first spied around August 2016. It is believed to be based on Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform (MQB AO) that also underpins cars such as the Audi A3, Skoda Octavia, Superb and the upcoming Kodiaq SUV. The 2018 Polo’s wheelbase has reportedly grown significantly, and since Vento shares its platform with the Polo, expect its wheelbase to relatively grow as well (read: a more spacious cabin).

As far as its debut is concerned, the Vento is likely to break cover next year, maybe at the 2017 São Paulo International Motor Show (as the first spy shots have come from Brazil). Also, unlike the current model, which is sold in select countries, the new Vento (also known as the Polo sedan) is said to be a global product. Volkswagen is likely to launch the new Polo and the Vento next year in India. A compact SUV, which will borrow its styling from the T-Cross Breeze concept, sharing the same platform is also on the cards for the country.

Mechanically, like the new Polo, the 2018 Vento will have a set of TSI and TDI petrol and diesel engines, respectively. Transmission options will include manual and DSG dual-clutch automatics. Its styling will be similar to the Polo with subtle differences, like the current version.
