Euro NCAP is a common testing ground for safety in cars that are on sale in European markets. In fact, all NCAPs (New Car Assessment Programmes) are designed to help consumers identify the safest choice as per their needs and requirements. In one of the recent crash tests conducted by Euro NCAP, Volvo S90 came out as a shining star with an overall five-star rating, the maximum that a car can achieve. As per Euro NCAP, Volvo S90 performed well in the overall crash protection, thanks to robust crash avoidance tech.

Volvo’s mantra of car design has always hovered around the safety of passengers and the crash test result reflects the same. Launched last year, the Volvo S90 has impressed everyone in the world of automotive industry. Tested against Euro NCAP’s 2017 test regime, the Volvo S90 surpasses the best overall score of any model tested for safety in 2016. This means that the S90 is one of Euro NCAP’s top 3 best performing cars ever; the other two being the Volvo V90 and the Volvo XC90.

The model tested was the S90 with standard safety equipment, which included front, side head, side chest and side pelvis airbags for the front passenger and the driver, knee airbag for the driver, side head airbag for rear passengers and, belt pretensioner and loadlimiter for the front passenger, driver and the rear passengers. Additionally, airbag cut-off switch for the front passenger, seat belt reminder for all occupants, autonomous emergency braking (AEB) tech, speed assistance system, lane assist system and ISOFIX mounts for child seats were also present.

Here is a breakup of the scores received:

  • Adult Occupant: 95 per cent
  • Child Occupant: 80 per cent
  • Pedestrian: 76 per cent
  • Safety Assist: 93 per cent

After this crash test report, it is safe to say that Volvo Cars are a byword for personal safety on the move. The Volvo S90 not only manages to outscore all its rivals from other manufacturers on sale today, but also demonstrates that Volvo’s key design element of passenger safety has always been of utmost importance.
