Bajaj confirms 2017 KTM Duke 250, RC 250 not launching in Indian stores

New generation KTM Duke 250 made global debut a few days after EICMA. Featuring similar updates as the new gen Duke 390, it was reported that KTM will launch the new gen KTM Duke 250 in India, and discontinue the Duke 250 from the market. The report was widely spread as Duke 200 production had come to a halt in India. Yes, as per sales figures revealed by SIAM, not a single unit of Duke 200 has been manufactured in September and October!This resulted in the spreading of news that KTM India will launch updated new generation Duke 250 in India, and discontinue the Duke 200. But, at the launch of RC 200 and RC 390 earlier this month, Bajaj officials cleared the air. They confirmed that neither of the 250s are coming to India. As of now, the 250 cc KTMs are purely for export purpose, just like the 125 cc KTMs.
The reason Bajaj refrains from launching the KTM 250 Duke and 250 RC in India is high cost of manufacturing them, as compared to the Duke 200 and RC 200. Though all three (200, 250, 390) are based on the same platform, Bajaj thinks it will not be feasible for them to slot the 250 cc KTMs in the current scenario, and thus it is better to continue with the Duke 200 and RC 200.Speaking about the reason behind why production of KTM Duke 200 had come to a halt, Bajaj stated that they were in the process of upgrading all their products to the BSIV emission norm.
Looking at the specs of KTM Duke 200, it is powered by a 200 cc single cylinder 4 stroke engine which delivers peak power of 26 hp at 10,000 rpm and peak torque of 20 Nm at 8,000 rpm. In comparison, the Duke 250 is powered by a 250 cc single cylinder 4 stroke, which delivers 31.3 PS and 24 Nm mated to a six speed transmission.
