Production comes to an end for 7th-Gen Rolls-Royce Phantom

Introduced more than 90 years ago, the Rolls-Royce Phantom is one of the most comfortable and luxurious cars in the world. The current, seventh-generation Phantom VII has been in the market for 13 years, and now it's time to say goodbye as its production has come to an end. In order to give a special farewell to the esteemed car, Rolls-Royce has built a special unit of the Phantom VII.

Specially built for a customer referred to as a ‘renowned contemporary Rolls-Royce collector’, the last Phantom VII is an extended-wheelbase limousine and is inspired by ocean liners from the 1930s. The tone-on-tone embroidery on the Powder Blue leather upholstery replicates the waves of the sea. While the clocks in the front cabin and on the partition wall look identical to the radio clocks in ocean liners, the main clock features 24 time zones on its bezel and can be rotated in either direction, depending upon the location. It also features hand-cut lambswool carpets, a twin coach line based on an ocean-liner theme and the limousine is painted in the Blue Velvet colour. What also sets it apart from the Standard Phantom VII is the Spirit of Ecstasy made from solid silver.

It is powered by the same 6.75-litre V-12 petrol engine as on the standard Phantom VII which churns out 459.4PS of power and is coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission. However, the eighth-generation Phantom, the Phantom VIII, will be unveiled in 2018. It has already been teased and will be based on an all-new aluminium platform that would help it shed a lot of weight compared to the outgoing model.
