Highlights

When it comes to diesel engines, the 1.5-litre engine on the WR-V produces the highest power (100PS) but it falls behind in terms of torque compared to the other four cars. It is the Cross Polo which has the highest torque -- 30Nm more than the WR-V -- followed by the i20 Active.

Honda Has Begun Accepting Pre-Bookings For The Upcoming WR-V For A Payment Of Rs 21,000.

Honda is all set to introduce its first compact crossover, the WRV, in the Indian market on March 16, 2017. It has spacious interiors and is loaded with features. The Jazz-based crossover is likely to be priced around the Rs 7.5-10 lakh mark and will go head to head against other crossovers like the Hyundai i20 Active, Fiat Avventura, Toyota Etios Cross and the Volkswagen Cross Polo. Let's compare the specifications of these cars and see how they fare against each other.

Dimension

The WR-V is the longest car here. Although all the cars belong to the sub-four metre category, the WR-V stretches to the limit with 3999mm of length. While the i20 Active is the closest competitor in terms of length (3995mm), the Etios Cross is the shortest among the five. The WR-V is also the tallest here. Both the i20 Active and the Etios Cross stand second in terms of height as they fall behind by a significant 46mm. However, when it comes to ground clearance, width, boot space and wheelbase, the i20 Active takes the crown. While the WR-V stands second in terms of ground clearance and wheelbase and third in terms of width, it comes fourth in terms of boot space. Although the WR-V is the longest and tallest, other specifications are in favour of the i20 Active and it appears to be the most spacious car on paper.

Honda WR-V Vs Jazz: What’s Different

Performance

All cars in this comparison, except for the Avventura, offer both petrol and diesel engines. While the Avventura misses out on a petrol engine, the Etios Cross has two petrol engines on offer.

The WR-V's 1.2-litre and the Etios Cross's 1.5-litre mills are the most powerful petrol engines (90PS) among the five cars. However, not only does the engine on the Etios Cross make the peak power 400 RPM earlier, it also has a higher torque compared to the WR-V. The i20 Active isn't too far behind as its power figures (83PS/114.7Nm) are also comparable to the WR-V.

Among all the petrol engines, the 1.2-litre engine on the Etios Cross has the highest claimed fuel efficiency of 18.16kmpl.

However, the WR-V and the i20 Active are the only cars here to offer a six-speed manual transmission; the rest have a five-speed unit. Also, in terms of mileage, the WR-V has the upper hand as it has a claimed fuel efficiency of 25.5kmpl.

The Hyundai i20 Active and the Etios Cross are the most affordable cars here as they have a starting price of Rs 6.7 lakh and 6.6 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) respectively. While the i20 Active goes up to Rs 9.57 lakh, the Etios tops out at Rs 8.1 lakh. However, the Etios Cross does miss out a lot of features -- in fact, it doesn’t even offer automatic AC, which is present on all the other cars. The WR-V is likely to start around the 7.5 lakh mark and its top-end variant, which will be equipped with features like a sunroof, automatic AC and cruise control, is likely to retail around Rs 10 lakh. The WR-V does miss a cooled glovebox and rear AC vents. While the Avventura misses cruise control, push button start/stop and cooled glove box, the Polo misses rear AC vents and push button start/stop. However, if you want all the above-mentioned features the i20 Active has all of it, except for a sunroof.
