Japanese carmaker Toyota is gearing up to launch the mid-life update for the Corolla Altis sedan in India. Several dealers have confirmed that the launch will be around the mid-March 2017. However, interested customers can pre-book the refreshed Corolla Altis prior to its launch at a booking amount ranging between Rs 50,000 - 1 lakh (dealer dependent).

As is the case with nearly all the India-bound Toyota products, the refreshed Corolla Altis is already on sale in Indonesia and Malaysia. This facelift is likely to help Toyota to tighten its grip on the market share of the D-segment sedans. In terms of design, the update will feature new front and rear bumpers, new front grille and, modified front and back lights. Inside the cabin, the updated car is likely to receive a bump in creature-comforts to match the Hyundai Elantra, which is the most feature-rich car in the segment.

Toyota is likely to carry the same engines (diesel and petrol) and the same transmissions as the ones found under the outgoing model. Where the frugal 1.4-diesel mill is tuned to produce 88PS of power and 205Nm toque, the 1.8-litre petrol motor is more powerful with 140PS of power and 173Nm of torque at its disposal. While the latter is paired with a six-speed manual box or a seven-speed CVT, the former will be offered with a six-speed manual transmission only.

Although Toyota products are renowned to be legendarily reliable, it must bring it’s A-game for the updated Altis to match the comfort levels that its rivals, Hyundai Elantra and the Skoda Octavia, deliver in a similar price bracket. Skoda is also expected to bring the facelifted Octavia to India later this year. Which one would you put your money on?
