Ford has introduced the cross-hatch version of the KA (second-gen Figo) in the Brazilian market, which made its world premiere at the 2016 Sao Paulo International Motor Show in Brazil last November. It has been launched there and will go on sale in April. Though not confirmed for the Indian market, we can expect Ford to offer it in the country in the near future since a lot of similar offerings are already on sale here. If launched, it might be christened the Figo Trail in India.

These cross-hatches are carved out of their respective stock offerings with subtle rugged aesthetic alterations, and the Figo/Ka Trail is no different. To begin with, it features wheel arch cladding along with front and rear faux skid plates and silver roof rails. The new fog lamp housing gets silver-highlighted ‘Trail’ inscription. It also receives grey decals with ‘Trail’ highlighted in orange on its sides and at the back. It gets black door handles and outside rear view mirrors. The headlights and tail lamps are smoked.

While the overall cabin layout and theme is similar to the regular hatchback, the Trail version gets subtle alterations. The seats are upholstered in a combination of leatherette and fabric materials with orange and green highlights. The fabric, Ford says, has received a ‘soil repellent’ treatment, which repels water and dirt. The front seats get an elastic bands on the side to carry things around.

Apart from this, it gets aluminium pedals, ‘Trail’ labelled door sills and rugged mats. Though the infotainment system (SYNC with AppLink Support) offered with the KA Trail is the same as offered in India, Ford gives an optional 6.0-inch capacitive touch-based unit with support for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (check out the image below).

Mechanically, the KA Trail is offered with identical engine options in Brazil as the regular hatchback and it will be the same case if the cross-hatch is launched in India. Besides this, it gets altered suspension setup for rough roads along with 15-inch wheels shod with Pirelli Scorpion ATR (all-terrain tyres) 185/65 cross-section tyres. The KA Trail also gets recalibrated ABS (anti-lock braking system) and electronic power steering, and also receives a larger front stabiliser bar, a stiffer rear axle and new hydraulic engine mounts.
