BMW 6-Series GT to launch at next Auto Expo

BMW has unveiled the new 6-Series GT which will be a successor to the 5-Series GT. The 6-Series GT will be making its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September this year and will go on sale in November in the international markets. Meanwhile, it is expected to be launched in India at the 2018 Auto Expo.

Built using aluminium and high strength steel in the chassis as well as the body components has helped the 6-Series GT to shed off nearly 150 kgs from the its weight. Factor in the lower weight and enhanced aerodynamics, result is the 6-Series GT is around 15 percent more fuel-efficient than its predecessor.

The 6-Series GT is a typical BMW Gran Turismo to look at. Traditional BMW kidney grille, the corona rings in the LED headlamps, coupe-like sloping roofline are all reminiscent of a typical BMW GT. The 6-Series GT measures 5091 mm in length, 1902 mm in width, 1538 mm in height. While the vehicle is longer by 87 mm and shorter by 21 mm than its predecessor, the width still remains the same.

The 6-Series GT will be available in both petrol and diesel engine options. Petrol engines on offer will be a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder motor with 255 HP and 400 Nm of torque badged as the 630i and a 3.0-litre inline-6 motor with 335 HP and 450 Nm of torque badged as the 640i. Diesel comes in only one variant, i.e. the 630d which under its hood houses the 3.0-litre inline-6diesel motor that produces 262 HP and 620 Nm of torque. All these engines will come paired to an 8-speed Steptronic transmission as standard.

Equipment wise, the BMW 6-Series GT gets collision and pedestrian warning, cross traffic warning, crossing traffic warning, crossroads warning, wrong way warning, side collision warning, active cruise control and lane departure warning. The Remote-Control Parking feature can also be had, but it’s optional.
