THE BIKE LOOKS PRODUCTION-READY AND BMW MIGHT SHOWCASE IT AT THE 2017 EICMA MOTOR SHOWTO BE HELD IN MILAN, ITALY

In recent years a lot of superbike manufacturers have updated their litre-class flagships with more powerful engines, weight-saving mechanical components, aerodynamic designs and modern-day wizardry to make them more competitive. It’s been 8 long years since BMW Motorrad launched its flagship superbike, the S1000RR, in the international market and apart from the update the bike received in 2015, the bike has remained unchanged till date. The S1000RR still offers mind-numbing performance figures and class-leading dynamics though it has begun to feel dated. The bike does feel devoid of modern-day electronic goodies that almost all its rivals, thanks to the regular updates, now brag about.

The all-new S1000RR was spotted testing without camouflage in Germany recently. The way this new S1000RR looks, it seems that the bike has received a lot of significant changes to its chassis, swingarm and bodywork. The test bike also featured a revised engine casing which leads us to believe that the 2018 BMW superbike might get a new inline four engine as well. Apart from being Euro 4-compliant, it is also expected that the new engine will be much more powerful than its predecessor. The current S1000RR is powered by a 999cc, four-cylinder engine that churns out 194PS at 13000rpm and a peak torque of 112Nm at 9750rpm. As seen from these images, it is also evident that the new bike gets a revised exhaust muffler, bigger disc rotors at the front, revised fairing design and rear view mirror-mounted turn signal indicators.

In terms of electronics, expect the BMW to be equipped with features like a TFT screen, Bluetooth connectivity, 6-axes IMU (Inertia Measurement Unit), launch control, adjustable traction control, wheelie control, and cornering ABS. The bike looks production-ready and BMW is expected to unveil it at the 2017 EICMA motorcycle show.Once on sale in India, the S1000RR will face competition from the Suzuki GSX-R1000, Yamaha R1, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R, Aprilia RSV4, MV Agusta F4 and Ducati 1299 Panigale.
