Hero unveiled the Dare 125 automatic scooter at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo along with the Zir 150 automatic scooter. Three years after the unveiling, Hero MotoCorp has finally decided to launch the Dare 125 scooter as the Aava early next year (last quarter of this fiscal) as per our source in the company.

The world’s largest 2-wheeler manufacturer is planning to launch two more scooters (in the next fiscal) other than the Aava to take on Honda which is close on its heels in sales. The Activa maker has said it will overtake its erstwhile partner this decade.

The Hero Aava 125 goes up against the Honda Activa 125 and Suzuki Access 125. Drawing power from a 124.8cc 4-stroke engine, the Aava makes 9.38 BHP of power and 9.8 Nm of torque. This 125cc engine comes mated to a CVT transmission.

Equipment list on the Aava 125 includes standard telescopic front forks, dual-tone alloy wheels, dual-tone body colour, fully digital instrument console, disc brake for the front wheel, LED DRLs and LED tail-lights. Tipping the scale at 114 kgs, the Aava will be targeted towards male buyers like the Maestro and we expect it to be priced between Rs. 55-60,000/- (ex-showroom).

While Hero MotoCorp has the ownership of all the designs made by EBR including the HX250R and Hastur 650, it is the pre-production tests on these bikes which is taking time. Hero MotoCorp is currently facing issues in its R&D which is the primary reason for the delay in launches of new products, in fact, this is something expected with any new R&D set-up.

Didn’t Bajaj and TVS Motor take years to learn from Kawasaki and Suzuki respectively?
While the HX250R and Hastur 650 will not be launched anytime soon, Hero has said that the Xtreme 200S will be making it to showrooms next year. The Xtreme 200S will rival the TVS Apache 200 and Pulsar NS 200.
