The ongoing Frankfurt Motor Show has seen the 2018 Suzuki Swift Sport being unveiled. Let’s get this straight, this hot hatch isn’t coming to India owing to poor sales of the Baleno RS. The Baleno RS sports a 1.0-litre BoosterJet engine while the Suzuki Swift Sport gets a 1.4-litre BoosterJet. When the smaller BoosterJet itself isn’t doing good numbers for Maruti Suzuki, introducing the Swift Sport with the bigger BoosterJet doesn’t make sense.

The Swift Sport features an aggressive design. There are tweaks to the front and rear bumpers. Announcing its racing intentions are the front, side and rear body skirts finished in carbon fibre with dual exhaust pipes. The projector headlamps with the LED DRLs and LED tail-lights remain identical to the regular Swift. There is also a rear spoiler. The Swift Sport runs on 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 195 section tyres.

The cabin remains similar to the regular Swift but comes with minor tweaks. The seats and the gear lever get contrast red stitching while the centre console, door pads and the dashboard get red accents to highlight the sporty nature of the car. The Swift Sport also gets a multi-function steering wheel and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

The Suzuki Swift Sport draws power from a 1.4-litre BoosterJet petrol motor that features direct injection, a short-port intake manifold and an exhaust manifold integrated into the cylinder head. This engine churns out 138 horses and 230 Nm of torque and comes paired to a 6-speed manual transmission like the previous Swift Sport but has now been tuned for better feel and smoothness. Suzuki has not revealed the performance figures of this engine yet.

The Swift Sport uses Monroe dampers with thick anti-roll bars for the front suspension and the trailing arm at the rear suspension has been exclusively designed for this model. All-around disc brakes do the job of bringing the car to a halt.

Other features in the vehicle include Advanced Forward Detection, Dual Sensor Brake Support, Lane Departure Warning and Adaptive Cruise Control, etc.
