Easily one of the most anticipated cars in India, Honda has showcased the Civic sedan at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show. Though the car looks more like a fastback, it is, however, a sedan. The tenth generation Honda Civic is India-bound, however, what we will be getting is the facelifted version of the car you see here.

Even after generations, the car’s silhouette still is so ‘Civic-esque’. The vehicle is low-slung and looks sleeker. The front fascia is adorned by the huge chrome grille flanked by LED headlamps on either side. The car here interestingly gets the indicators housed near the wheel arches. What’s more interesting is the rear profile. The Civic gets a coupe-like sloping roofline and the boomerang-shaped LED tail-lights merge well with the rear design.

Coming to the interior of the Honda Civic, there is a normal-looking dashboard layout. To be precise, this interior is rather simple. The car pictured here features a touchscreen infotainment system and automatic climate control. However, it’s too early to tell how Honda will design the dashboard and what features will make it to the India-spec Civic.

The Honda Civic globally gets a 1.5-litre turbocharged VTEC petrol motor that belts out 180 HP of power, however, that won’t make it to the India-spec Civic. Instead, what we will get a 1.8-litre petrol engine that produces 140 BHP and a 1.6-litre diesel mill with 120 BHP of power (the same engine outputs 158 BHP in the CR-V). The 1.6-litre diesel will also find its way into the Honda CR-V before the Civic, Honda will heavily localise this oil burner.

The Civic will be positioned above the City and will rival the Hyundai Elantra, Skoda Octavia and Toyota Corolla Altis in the Indian market. The eighth generation Civic was launched in India in 2006 and was discontinued in 2011 due to low demand for petrol powered cars in the D-segment where the Volkswagen Jetta, Skoda Octavia, Chevrolet Cruze and Toyota Corolla had an upper hand due to diesel engines.
