Renault Captur comes to India

Renault has launched the Captur in the Indian market at a starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The Captur takes on the Hyundai Creta and the Maruti S-Cross and shares its platform and engines with the Duster.

Well, let’s start with the looks and design first. While the design is unmistakably French, the Captur is sure to turn heads with its looks. The grille with the big Renault badge, full-LED headlamps, C-shaped LED DRLs, the silver skid plate in the lower bumper all adds character of the front fascia.

Come to the side and you’ll instantly notice the 17-inch alloy wheels, flared wheel arches, black cladding and the segment-best 210 mm ground clearance that screams SUV. At the rear, you have ripple LED tail-lights, dual-tone bumper and a silver skid plate. The dual-tone colour schemes add to the stylish appeal of the crossover. Renault is also offering a host of customisation options on the Captur.

Coming to the interior, though the dashboard layout is all-new, there is a lot of part-sharing done. The seven-inch touchscreen infotainment and the climate control buttons have been carried over from the Duster. However, there is a new multi-function steering wheel, fully-digital instrument cluster, leather seats, rear AC vents, Ambient Lighting and reverse parking camera. The infotainment system comes paired to an ARKAMYS-tuned sound system. Overall, though the Captur’s interior comes across as feature-rich, the quality of materials used especially in the dashboard is still far from the best.

Powering the Rneault Captur are 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines. The petrol engine makes 106 HP at 5600 RPM and 142 Nm of torque at 4000 RPM. This engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The K9K diesel engine churns out 110 HP at 4000 RPM and 240 Nm of torque at 1750 RPM and comes with a six-speed manual gearbox.

The SUV uses McPherson Struts with Lower Transverse Link at the front and a Twist Beam at the rear. Braking is via discs and drum units at the front and rear respectively. In terms of safety, the Captur comes loaded to the gills. It gets automatic headlamps, automatic wipers, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, dual front airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts and keyless entry.

Renault is offering dual tone versions of the Captur on the RXT and Platine variants at a premium of Rs 17,000.
