The Italian carmaker has inked a multi-year contract with the Swiss Sauber F1 team
From 2018, the Sauber F1 team will have a new title sponsor on board. And that’s Alfa Romeo. The duo have finished the paperwork to begin an exciting phase of joint operations for the fastest sport on four-wheels. The Swiss and the Italian automotive firms have entered a multi-year contract and the scope of agreement includes strategic, commercial and technological co-operation in all areas of development. That includes access to Alfa’s technical know-how and the expertise of its technical staff.
The cars will be draped in the distinctive colours and logo of Alfa Romeo and will be powered by the 2018 Ferrari engines. The official name will be Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 team. While Sauber has been part of the motorsport for a number of years now, Alfa Romeo has been absent from it for nearly 30 years. The company participated in Formula 1 from 1950 to 1988, both as a constructor and engine supplier. In both the 1950 and 1951 seasons, Alfa Romeo won the driver’s championships. From 1961 to 1979, the Italian carmaker was an engine supplier to several F1 teams.
A new game player is always welcome, no matter what sport you pick. And if that player is a proven veteran, the excitement is even higher. Alfa Romeo is part of FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) and with this partnership with Sauber F1 now, the Italian company will be looking for additional opportunities in both Formula 1 and in the automotive sector in general. The arrival of Alfa Romeo won’t be the only new thing as Formula 1 will also get a brand new logo, which was unveiled soon after the 2017 season concluded.
