Lap times at Germany’s famed Nürburgring Nordschleife have become benchmarks for go-fast cars from all around the world. Releasing a bunch of eye-watering performance figures doesn’t quite cut it anymore. Those horsepower and torque numbers have to blend in well with the car’s dynamics and produce a blistering time at the ‘Ring to grab attention. That’s exactly what Jaguar has done with its XE SV Project 8. The British beauty, the production of which is limited to just 300 units, lapped the famous race track in just 7 minutes and 21.23 seconds.
That makes it the quickest four-door production sedan in the world. The previous best time was set in 2016 by the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio which, at 7 minutes and 32 seconds, was over 11 seconds slower around the same track. The third place on the list, with a time of 7 minutes and 38 seconds, is held by the Porsche Panamera Turbo.
It’s not surprising that the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 absolutely smashed the record in Germany. When it was unveiled in June this year, it claimed the title of being the most extreme road-legal Jaguar ever made. Under the hood, it houses the most powerful version of Jaguar’s 5.0-litre supercharged V8, producing 600PS/700Nm. That, along with aerodynamic sorcery and an overall lightened package, means Jaguar’s baby sedan can clock the 0-100kmph sprint in just 3.3 seconds and reach speeds of up to 322kmph.
It seems that Jaguar’s SVO (Special Vehicle Operations) division really is an all-rounder. Over the years, the SVO eggheads have time and again proved that they are not just the masters of producing some of the fastest cars in the world, but also have the finesse to carve out uber-luxurious recipes like the recently revealed Range Rover SVAutobiography.
