Bajaj Avenger 180 vs Suzuki Intruder 150: Spec Comparison
How does the new Avenger fare against the baby Intruder?
How does the new Avenger fare against the baby Intruder?
Bajaj recently launched the Avenger 180, which will serve as the replacement for the outgoing Avenger 150. But how will it fare against its direct competition, the Suzuki Intruder 150? We pit them against each other on paper to find out.
Engine -
Powering the new entry-level Avenger is the same 178.6cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that is seen on the Bajaj Pulsar 180. However, the Chakan-based manufacturer has detuned this mill to deliver 15.5PS of power at 8500rpm and 13.7Nm of torque at 6500rpm, as opposed to 17PS of power and 14.2Nm of torque on the Pulsar 180.
Coming to the Suzuki Intruder 150, it packs the same reliable 154.9cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine as the Suzuki Gixxer, albeit with some changes. This includes a redesigned airbox with a larger intake and a re-tuned exhaust.
This results in it delivering the same 14Nm of torque at 6000rpm as the Gixxer, but a reduced 14.8PS of power at 8000rpm.

Features -
In terms of features, the Avenger 180 borrows a lot of elements from the Avenger 220 Street while maintaining the Avenger 150’s affordability factor. This means you now get a redesigned headlamp with LED DRLs integrated at the bottom, instead of the round chrome element found on the Avenger 150. But it only manages to get a semi-digital instrument console instead of the all-digital one seen on the Avenger 220 Street. The tail lamp unit is now borrowed straight from the Street 220 but misses out on LED lighting, opting instead for a conventional bulb setup.
Here's where the Suzuki Intruder delivers a chokeslam to the Avenger 180: The company has packed the 150cc cruiser with features. This includes a headlamp with LED DRLs at the front. In addition to this, the Intruder also gets an all-LCD instrument cluster, borrowed from the Gixxer, and LED tail-light at the back -- both of which are missing from the Bajaj Avenger 180.
Underpinnings -
Suspension duties on the Bajaj Avenger 180 are handled by conventional telescopic forks at the front with 130mm travel, and a twin nitrox setup at the back, imparting a travel increase of 10mm from the 98mm of the Avenger 150. Braking is handled by a 260mm disc at the front and 130mm drum unit at the back. The Avenger 180 misses out on the single-channel ABS unit that is offered on the Suzuki Intruder 150. Its front 17-inch 90/70 and rear 15-inch 130/90 wheels come wrapped in either MRF or Eurogrip tyres. The Avenger packs a 13-litre fuel tank, 2 litres more than the Intruder, and manages to tip the scale at 150kg (kerb).
The Intruder shares its underpinnings with the Gixxer 150. It comes equipped with the same diamond-type frame as the naked bike, suspended upon beefy 41mm front forks and a rear monoshock unit.
Braking duties are taken care of by a 266mm disc at the front and a 220mm rear disc. Its 17-inch 100/80 and 140/60 section tyres have been developed by MRF. Despite a bulky appearance the Intruder manages to weigh 2kg lighter than the Avenger 180, at 148kg (kerb). But it packs a smaller fuel tank of 11 litres.

Pricing -
The Bajaj Avenger 180 carries a price tag of Rs 85,498 (ex-showroom Delhi), a hike of Rs 5,000 over the Avenger 150 it replaces. For this price bump, you get better performance and a better-looking motorcycle than the Avenger 150.
With all this, it still manages to heavily undercut the Suzuki Intruder 150 by Rs 14,500, which is priced at a premium of Rs 99,995.

Verdict -
While the Avenger manages to dish out marginally more power than the Intruder, it still lacks in terms of features such as single-channel ABS and a fully digital instrument console. However, a price tag of close to a lakh for the Intruder 150 is a difficult pill to swallow for many Indian buyers.
Hence, the Avenger 180 takes the cake helped in large part by its value-for-money quotient.
