Toyota recently introduced the Diamond edition of the Fortuner in the Latin American market (The Fortuner is known as SW4 there). The Diamond version comes with a few aesthetic updates inside out and additional features over the existing variants.

Should it come to India?

We feel that the Diamond edition should be introduced in the Indian market. Why? First off, it features a beige-black cabin, whereas the current variants offer a darker all-black layout with burgundy upholstery. Many people like a lighter cabin setup as it makes the interior feel airier.

More importantly, the Fortuner Diamond comes with a premium sound system (JBL), which is sorely missing from the standard Fortuner’s equipment list. The Fortuner presently offers a 6-speaker sound system while even a Tata Tiago pleases you with a Harman-sourced 8-speaker system. Its arch-rival, the Ford Endeavour, packs a standard 10-speaker system with active noise cancellation tech that delivers a better output than the Fortuner’s unit. These full-size body-on-frame SUVs have already breached the Rs 30 lakh mark and certainly warrant a premium sound system. The Endy already offers it, now it’s about time the Fortuner should feature one too. Toyota already offers a similar JBL system with the Camry Hybrid in India.
