Tata Tiago Petrol Manual vs Automatic - Real-World Mileage Comparison
Going by the manufacturer\'s claim, the Tiago petrol in both its versions (MT and AMT) has a mileage of 23.84 kmpl. However, when we look at the real-life test figures, the FE is lower than the claimed figure with both the transmissions.
For a change, here’s one automatic car that is more fuel efficient than its manual counterpart
The Tiago is one of the best selling cars in Tata’s India lineup. Not only is it priced aggressively, it also offers a lot of equipment, some even segment-first features. Priced from Rs 3.35 lakh to Rs 5.99 lakh, the Tiago sits right between entry-level cars like the Kwid and the Alto K10 and premium hatchbacks like the Swift and the Grand i10. It is a great option for those looking for a feature-packed car on a budget.

The Tiago is available with both petrol and diesel engines. However, it is only the petrol version that comes with an AMT. The Tiago petrol is powered by a 1.2-litre engine that makes 85PS of maximum power and 114Nm of peak torque. We’ve tested both its manual and AMT versions and here are our findings:
CAR MODEL | CLAIMED FUEL EFFICIENCY | TESTED HIGHWAY FUEL EFFICIENCY | TESTED CITY FUEL EFFICIENCY |
Tiago MT | 23.84kmpl | 21.68kmpl | 15.26kmpl |
Tiago AMT | 23.84kmpl | 22.02kmpl | 16.04kmpl |
Going by the manufacturer's claim, the Tiago petrol in both its versions (MT and AMT) has a mileage of 23.84 kmpl. However, when we look at the real-life test figures, the FE is lower than the claimed figure with both the transmissions. And out of the two, it’s the Tiago AMT that is more frugal. In the city, the Tiago AMT puts out a figure of 16.04 kmpl against the MT’s 15.26kmpl. And on the Highway, the AMT pips the MT by delivering 22.02kmpl, 0.34kmpl more than MT.

The reason behind the AMT’s better efficiency is its eagerness to shift. In bumper to bumper traffic the gearbox keeps shifting up and down in order to deliver better fuel economy.
Going by the ARAI-tested mileage the Tiago is the most fuel-efficient car in its class. It is followed by the Maruti Celerio and the Maruti WagonR with figures of 23.10kmpl (both MT and AMT) and 20.41kmpl (both MT and AMT), respectively.
