The BSE benchmark Sensex on Monday rose over 57 points in early trade on sustained capital inflows amid a firming trend in the Asian region. The 30-share index, which had gained 467.38 points in the previous session, moved up further by 57.56 points, or 0.28 per cent, to 20,940.45 with stocks in capital goods, realty, auto and metal sectors leading the rise.

Similarly, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty rose by 17.30 points, or 0.28 per cent, to 6,206.65. Brokers said sustained buying by funds, tracking a firming trend in the Asian region as investors await long-delayed US jobs data to be released this week, mainly influenced the trading sentiment.
In Asia, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index was up 0.66 per cent and Japan’s Nikkei rose 1.00 per cent in early trade. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.18 per cent higher on Friday.
