Hyderabad: Meru Cabs, a leading cab service provider, on Wednesday launched low-cost taxi service called Genie in the city. Genie cabs are cheaper at Rs 16 per km when compared with standard Meru Cabs which cost Rs 21 per km. “Genie Cabs brand is set to redefine the way people travel in the city.
People can now have a safe and comfortable travel experience without having to stretch their budgets. It is an attempt to democratize safe and affordable journey across the population,” Siddhartha Pahwa, CEO, Genie and Meru Cabs, told media here after launching the service.
Meru Cabs Unveils Low-Cost Taxi Service In Hyderabad
The radio taxi operator, which will initially deploy 50 Genie cabs in the city, will use small cars such as Tata Indica and Toyota Etios Liva for the purpose. “We are hopeful that autorickshaw users will migrate to the budget cab services,” he said. He further said the company would expand the fleet of Genie to 500 cars over the next one year.
“We have launched the service in the city on pilot basis. We will launch it in other cities such as Delhi and Bangalore after we fine-tune the business model,” he explained.
Meru Cabs, one of the largest taxi operators in the country, has a fleet of 6,000 cars spread across major cities in the country. At present, the size of organised cab market is pegged at Rs 5,000 crore with annual growth above 20 per cent.
