Auto cos to light up Delhi show with new cars, 12th AutoExpo, Asia’s largest automobile event,Maruti. In addition to cars, plenty of new bikes will be on display at the event with Harley Davidson showcasing Street 750 bike.

Hyderabad: Undeterred by slowdown in auto sales in the country, automakers are gearing up to showcase over 70 new models at 12th AutoExpo, which is scheduled to open for public at Greater Noida on the outskirts of New Delhi on February 7, 2014.

The auto show, which is touted as Asia’s largest automobile event, is expected to infuse enthusiasm in the country’s automobile industry which is going through tough period in the wake of subdued demand.

Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker, will lead from the front at the show as well by launching a new small car called Celerio. Equipped with innovative technology, the new small car is likely to come with clutch-less transmission system which will make automatic driving affordable in the country. In addition to this trendsetter, the automaker will also unveil a new sedan and host of concept models. Not to be left behind, Hyundai Motors, the country’s second largest carmaker, will unveil a sedan which will compete in the entry-level sedan segment currently dominated by Maruti’s Swift Dzire and Honda’s Amaze. The Korean carmaker will also take wraps off undated Santa Fe premium sports utility vehicle (SUV).

Other mass market automakers which will launch new models include Ford, General Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Nissan and Tata Motors. Nissan is using the premier event as platform to roll out Datsun brand which will take on small cars from Maruti and Hyundai. Targeted at emerging markets such as India, Datsun will have global premiere of its hatchback at the show. German carmaker Volkswagen will launch Taigun SUV.

Coming to the luxury carmakers, BMW India will showcase four new models such as BMW i8 electric car, updated version of X5 SUV and 3 Series Gran Turismo. Mercedes-Benz is bringing its GLA compact SUV, Audi which emerged as leading luxury car player in the country is set to wow visitors at the show with Audi A3 sedan.

In addition to cars, plenty of new bikes will be on display at the event with Harley Davidson showcasing Street 750 bike. Honda, Bajaj, Hero and other two wheeler makers will also launch new offerings.

The biennial automotive extravaganza which used to be held at Pragati Maiden in New Delhi is split into two events this year. The AutoExpo for components is being organised at the old venue while the The Motor Show where new cars and other vehicles will be displayed has been shifted to new venue, India Expo Mart, at Greater Noida.
