Hyderabad: Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) which is organising a meeting of buyers and sellers as part of the ongoing BioAsia 2014 conference said the exercise would generate 30-40 export deals for Indian companies.

“More than 100 companies from 16 countries are participating in the buyers and sellers meet. Many of them are entering into agreements with Indian companies. As per information I have received till now, some exciting deals are on the cards. We expect at least 30 to 40 deals,” Dr P V Appaji, Director-General, Pharmexcil, told The Hans India.

Of the total deals to be finalized, 15 to 20 deals will come to Andhra Pradesh-based companies, he added. “Companies like Aurobindo Pharma have full-fledged management delegations at the meeting to tap the opportunities available at the event,” he said.

Dr Appaji further said that details about the deals would be announced on the last day of the event on Wednesday. “As a standard practice, we will announce the details on the last day. Many times, companies will not disclose the transaction details as they want to keep them confidential,” he said.

According to him, several Latin American countries including Peru are participating in the meet. “Delegations from other countries such as Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Cambodia have come for the event. Besides, regulators have come from six countries,” he explained.

He further said the overseas companies were exploring opportunities in vaccines, APIs (active pharmaceutical ingredients), formulations, medical devices and diagnostics. “A delegation from Ghana is exploring joint venture opportunities in herbal medicines,” he said.

On BioAsia 2014, he said the event was going on very well. “We are helping all our members with clarifications on FDA regulations,” he said.
