Hyderabad: Pointing out that incentives announced by the central government for Seemandra region were not sufficient to develop the residuary Andhra Pradesh after bifurcation, industrialists from that region on Friday demanded more sops and incentives to attract large scale investments. Participating in the roundtable on 'Andhra Pradesh: Development Scope and Perspective’ organised by AP Journalists’ Forum here on Friday, they strongly felt that development of S e e m a n d r a would not be a difficult proposition if all including political parties joined hands and worked hand in hand.
They however underscored the need for spreading development across the residuary state of AP instead of focusing on capital as it happened in the case of Hyderabad. Y Harish Chandra Prasad, past chairman, CII Andhra Pradesh, and Chairman, Mahalaxmi Group, said growth in the Seemandhra region was just five per cent as compared with 12 per cent of united Andhra Pradesh during 11th Plan period and only Visakhapatnam was an exception to this. "This is mainly due to overwhelming growth in Hyderabad.
This is the time we should develop the Seemandhra area. The package announce by the government will boost economic activity in the region,” he said. There is an urgent need for a new capital for AP, he added. Srini Raju, noted venture capitalist and founder of I Labs, said that all the political parties who were vying for power in Seemandra should draw up a common minimum programme for the all round development of AP. Pressure should be exerted on all politicians and bureaucrats to arrive at a common minimum programme, he added. “All political parties will have to sign at least five points on which they would not fight," Raju explained. "Good governance and policies are a must for development. We can bring lot of investments to the state, but we will have to give them returns also," he said.
According to him, the Seemandhra region could be positioned as a manufacturing hub, with incentives announced by the central government during the bifurcation. “After bifurcation, AP will be surplus in power, land and water resources for manufacturing facilities,” he said. Several speakers said that each district of Seemandra region could be developed on the lines of Hyderabad if people, media and government extended support to industrialists and businessmen. J A Chowdary, Chairman, TalentSprint, and several other industrialists from Seemandra region participated in the event.
