Wise Lessons That Fairness Creams Teach Us. A country which is known for its phenomenal struggle against colonial powers, India is probably one of the countries suffering most from post colonial sentiments.

India has been, on numerous occasions, been called a country of closet racists; and this may very well be true. Open a newspaper and go to the matrimonial section, the ideal bride is always 5 feet tall and very fair. Compare the biggest models in the Indian fashion industry, and most of them are fair. Look at the south Indian film industries, and their dark actress usually total down to 2 or less.

But Indian advertisements are the most solid proof of how deeply racist sentiments are ingrained within the Indian psyche. These commercials encourage racist Indian sentiments, and racist Indian sentiments encourage these advertisements; a vicious cycle there seems to be no escape from.

Here are a few commercials we’ve seen throughout our lives, and the lessons they’ve been trying to teach us.

Lesson 1

If you meet someone who discriminates based on your skin tone, don’t protest or stand up for yourself or anything like that because it is so last century – the Africans did it, the slaves in America did it, and we did it. Just bleach your face. Then you’ll be fair and everyone will love you.

Lesson 2

Some fairness creams can go deep into your skin and remove stubborn dark spots. No, of course, it’s perfectly safe and healthy to “naturally” alter your epidermis.

Lesson 3

If you don’t have flawless white skin, you aren’t going to find true love because they just aren’t going to notice you. And most of the time, the lights around you will be very dim. But if you’re pale white or pinkish white (I’ve only heard “pinkish white” being used to describe babies, but the fairness cream has to be right.) you’ll be chased down in an airport by the other half of your heart (who takes a little longer than forever to recognise you, the stupidity just makes him more attractive).

Lesson 4

Buy Fair and Lovely fairness cream and get a free gym membership card for your significant other.

Lesson 5

It’s the 21st century, women are empowered: they’ve completed their education, they want jobs, and they work hard for it. But of course, they’re still nothing without a fairness cream.

Lesson 6

Men and women are equal today. They’re equally qualified for jobs, education and life. And what makes them equal? Men get the jobs with hard work as they always did, and women become fairer by bleaching their faces.
