“The new Telangana State Industrial Policy to be announced shortly has identified 12 core sectors which will receive sector-specific incentives. Defence and aerospace which offers immense growth opportunities is among them,” K Pradeep Chandra, Special Chief Secretary and Commissioner for Industrial Promotion, told media here on Tuesday. Apart from aerospace & defence, other core sectors that have been identified by Telangana include electronics and hardware, textiles, automotive, pharmaceutical, inland port, chemicals & platics, food processing, IT and green technologies.

“There will be overall industrial policy initiatives that are applicable to all the sectors. But these 12 sectors will have specific incentives and initiatives that are applicable to the respective sector only,” he explained.

On the power shortage for industrial sector, he maintained that there was only one power holiday a week for industries now. “They had two days power holiday earlier, but we have reduced to one day now which is anyway a weekly off for many industries,” he said.

He further explained that the government had eased norms for industries to buy power in open access. “Unlike in the past when only a few industrial units were allowed to buy power from open access, we are allowing access to all the units now. So, even SMEs are buying power through open access route,” Pradeep Chandra explained.

According to him, only 50 industrial units were allowed to purchase power through open access in 2012. Now, over 900 companies are getting power through this route, he added.

“There is now problem for power if companies plan in advance. Some companies are working during the nights because power is available at lower rates during that time,” he said.
