Mercedes India lines up 15 new models, Mercedes-Benz has planned to launch 15 new models in India in 2015 as a part of its efforts to consolidate its position and increase sales in the country.
Hyderabad: Mercedes-Benz has planned to launch 15 new models in India in 2015 as a part of its efforts to consolidate its position and increase sales in the country. The German luxury carmaker will also open 15 new dealerships across the country.
“We launched a total of 10 new models last year. But we will launch 15 models this year besides opening 15 new dealers at strategic locations,” Eberhard Kern, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, told reporters here after launching the company’s new C Class diesel sedan.
The automaker which was on the back foot in India a couple of years ago has been registering record sales recently. Last year, it drove past the milestone of 10,000 units in annual sales for the first time and sold 10,201 cars in India, registering a 13 per cent year-on-year growth. It is now the second largest luxury carmaker in the country after compatriot Audi. It continued the momentum in January, clocking a sales growth of 25 per cent as compared with sales in January 2014.
However, Kern sounded cautious on the luxury car sales during course of year, saying the growth would depend on the incentives offered for the automobile industry in the upcoming Budget. “Prices of luxury cars in India are higher than those in several global markets because of high tax burden which goes up to 180 per cent on certain models. We hope to see some tax retionalisation to boost luxury car sales in the country,” he explained.
The newly-launched Mercedes-Benz C Class sedan is available in two variants. The entry-level C220 CDI Style is priced at Rs 40.61 lakh (ex showroom Hyderabad) while the C 220 CDI Avantgarde is available at Rs 43.66 lakh.
