Hyderabad: As a first step to realise Prime Minister’s ‘Make in India’ dream, Essel Group has entered into an agreement with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to form IndiaTechnical consortium to set up smart cities.

The MoU was signed in Hyderabad on Thursday by CII Director General Chandrajit Bannerjee and Amit Goenka, Director Essel Infra Projects, says the company statement.

According to the agreement, the two organisations would work towards associating and bringing other technology and infrastructure solution partners together as a cohesive group for developing smart cities in India.

Besides, Essel Group supports CII by conducting feasibility studies for the evaluation of potential target cities with regard to opportunities in energy management, mobility solutions, building management systems and other associated areas.

While CII establishes National Mission for Smart Cities (NMSC) as a platform comprising of industry leaders and experts and provide policy advocacy and thought leadership for Smart City initiatives to Government and other stakeholders.

Under the MoU, CII will align the interests of its members with those of the government and manage a knowledge repository in the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India, on best practices in Smart City development.

Speaking on the MoU, Subhash Chandra, Chairman, Essel Group, said, “The pact will pave the way for bringing in a wealth of knowledge, talent and domain expertise in the areas of engineering excellence, renewable energy and infrastructure.”

The Essel Group is already working with a Chinese firm, JA Solar, for setting up a solar cell and module manufacturing company in India. It had forged alliances with five leading German firms to develop green energy projects and smart cities in India.

The group plans to invest over $2 billion in the next 3 years in across India to enhance the quality of life. It is the only integrated smart city developer in India with proven expertise in creating single window utility corridor, the release said.
