The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in its annual ceremony to recognise ‘Best in Class’ manufacturing and food service organisations, recently awarded Tetra Pak the Certification of Commendation for ‘Significant Achievement in Food Safety under [the category of] Large Manufacturing – Food Packaging Material (Rising Star)’. The recognition is for Tetra Pak’s continuing efforts in maintaining the highest international manufacturing standards to jointly ensure – along with the food and beverage industry – that only safe and hygienic food reaches consumers.

Besides global standards and Indian regulations on food safety systems, the criteria included assessment of Social Compliance and Change Management Systems, HACCP systems and Food Safety Management System based on ISO 22000. It also includes recognition of management initiatives and Sector Specific Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Tetra Pak’s state-of-the-art facility at Chakan, the largest facility in area outside of Sweden, has been recognised as the best performing factory for 2015 among 37 Tetra Pak factories worldwide. This double accolade bears testimony to the factory’s ‘World Class Manufacturing (WCM)’ principles which encompass a number of measures – from quality standards, waste management and asset utilisation, to team spirit and employee safety.
On the occasion, Tetra Pak South Asia Markets Managing Director Kandarp Singh said, “Tetra Pak's brand promise 'PROTECTS WHAT'S GOOD' rests on two dimensions – food safety and sustainability – and reflects our commitment to deliver unparalleled food safety while minimising the impact on the environment. Safety and sustainability are indeed the two key challenges facing the industry today.
Aseptic technology - which Tetra Pak pioneered over half a century ago - has been a proven solution to eliminate food losses the world over, providing the highest degree of food protection through aseptic processing and packaging and obviating the need for refrigerated storage and transport or for preservatives. And that’s why it is so relevant for India where our food processing sector continues to face endemic and perennial wastage of perishables. Aseptic technology enables penetration of safe foods into the remotest parts of the country, in a range of packaging sizes and formats and across price points from INR 5 to INR 105. This is well-aligned with our company’s vision ‘to make food safe and available, everywhere’.
Having invested ahead of the curve in our state-of-the-art facility at Chakan (near Pune), Tetra Pak is well-equipped to supporting our customers to meet the fast-growing consumer demand for safe packaged food in the region. In fact, Chakan’s recognition as the 2015 ‘Factory of the Year’ is a highly commendable feat as the team has been able to execute and deliver high standards of manufacturing, globally, within just 3 years of operations”.
