Hyderabad: Chennai-based Gamesa India, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Spanish wind turbine maker Gamesa, is building a Greenfield integrated manufacturing factory in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, with an investment of Rs 800 crore.

The facility is a part of the Euro 100-million investment plan announced earlier by Gamesa. Located at the IFFCO Kissan special economic zone in Nellore, the facility will employ close to 1,000 people over the next three years.

In a statement on Tuesday, Gamesa said Phase-I of the Nellore project would include setting up of an integrated blade manufacturing facility for the G114-2.0 MW wind turbine, which will be completed by September 2016.

The facility will be equipped to manufacture 300 MW per year currently and will facilitate the growth of several ancillary industries in the state. In the future, the plant will be scaled to manufacture new technology blades, nacelles, generators, and component assemblies for wind turbines. The facility will also manufacture solar inverters designed for the Indian market.

“Our decision to set up a manufacturing facility in Nellore by the end of this year is our commitment towards expanding our footprint in the country and is testimony to our endeavour to make India the manufacturing hub for renewable energy solutions,” said Ramesh Kymal, Chairman and Managing Director, Gamesa India.

Gamesa India on Tuesday announced that it was named the number one wind turbine manufacturer in the country for the second consecutive year by the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers’ Association.

Gamesa India, which currently holds a market share of 29 per cent with a total commissioning of 1,003 MW for the financial year 2015-2016, has an installation base of 3,000 MW of wind projects and services close to 2,800 MW under operation and maintenance (O&M) agreements.

Stating that it was confident of retaining the market leadership position, Gamesa India said with the commercial success of the G114-2.0MW turbine, the company was expecting to further increase its market share.

“Our incremental innovation in developing machines ideally suited for the Indian grid, wind and climactic conditions, coupled with our strong EPC and project execution capabilities helped us to cross the 1,000-MW milestone,” Kymal said.

In line with the Make in India campaign, Gamesa already operates two nacelle manufacturing facilities near Chennai, and a blade manufacturing plant in Halol, Gujarat.
