"I apologise once again for the trouble we caused," said Osamu Suzuki at a news conference.
It was revealed last month that Japan's No. 4 automaker by sales had used the wrong methods to calculate mileage for models going back to 2010, Reuters reports.
"This latest incident occurred because of problems within the company which had continued for a long time, including an R&D division which was not transparent enough," said Toshihiro Suzuki, the chairman's eldest son. He took over from his father as president last year.
"We are making these changes today to try to regain the trust of our customers, and to rebuild Team Suzuki," Suzuki added.
It is believed that the unauthorised testing method for vehicles was not approved by the Japanese regulators.
On similar lines, Mitsubishi Motors Corp.'s president is also set to resign after the company admitted to manipulating data and using an unauthorized testing method on some models for 25 years.
