Hyderabad: City-based engineering services company, Cyient Limited, on Thursday opened a new global design centre for SMEC, an Australian professional services firm known globally for providing high-level consultancy services on major infrastructure projects.

The new centre of excellence, built and operated by Cyient, is SMEC’s first offshore design centre. It will support its global design work, primarily around civil and structural, including building information modeling (BIM).

The new centre, which will commence operations from July 2016, is expected to scale up to 100 full-time engineers within a year, and grow significantly each year thereafter, generating new employment, Cyient said in a statement. “We are delighted to partner SMEC and establish a state-of-the-art global design centre in Bengaluru.

The relationship represents the strong synergies in civil and structural engineering that both SMEC and Cyient recognise in each other. The design center sets the foundation for a long-term collaboration with SMEC,”said Krishna Bodanapu, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Cyient.
