Hyderabad: 50K Ventures, a Hyderabad-based investment platform to back technology start-ups at the idea and early-stage of their lifecycles, has invested an undisclosed amount in mobile app-based food delivery aggregator KhanaGadi. Founded by Amit Deep Kumar in Jaipur, KhanaGadi intends to deploy the funding to expand its station network, aggressive marketing strategy and for building the right team at suitable places.

It was in 2015 that Kumar realised how difficult it was to find food while traveling via trains, and in the rare cases when food is available, the options are few and the packaging isn't good enough. KhanaGadi practically solves both these issues by offering various meal options that include combos and mini-meals. The packaging and the menu, too, was created considering the environment of the train in mind.

The best part about KhanaGadi is that, if the train is running late, the food delivery too would be rescheduled accordingly, the company said. “KhanaGadi has hand-picked the particular space where travelers truly undergo a great deal of struggle to find decent food. With KhanaGadi solving such a major issue that most of the Indians face, I think hygienic and delicious food with different options would soon be available at every station with just an order through your app,” said Sanjay Enishetty, Managing Partner at 50K Ventures.

Under its meal-on-seat programme, KhanaGadi currently offers over 20,000 food items with a vast menu bank comprising breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner, at around 150 stations covering 10,000 trains, including Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Warangal, Secunderabad and Rajahmundry in the two Telugu-speaking states. “With an intention to serve diabetic, low cholesterol-friendly meals in the near future, KhanaGadi aims to serve 1,000 customers in a day by next year,” the company added.
