Centre to create digital data base of 51 million Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises

Hyderabad: The Union Ministry for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) is planning to digitise the data base of 51 million MSMEs in the country very soon.

In this age of digital technology, the data regarding MSMEs needs to be captured online. Therefore, the Ministry has launched a new initiative to capture data regarding MSMEs online through msmedatabank.

The digitalisation initiative is expected to help the Ministry save nearly Rs 200 crore being incurred for periodically conducting national census of the MSMEs in the country.

Also, this data will help the Ministry plan the development activities and incentive programmes for the key sector,” Kumar added.
At present, a pilot project of the digitalisation initiative is underway and nearly 18,000 MSMEs have come forward to enter their data on to the platform on their own, he said.

Currently, the data of MSMEs is available in physical form. We will do away with the same in future. We will roll out this initiative in next one month,” he said.

Kumar further said that the central government had initiated measures for improving ease of doing business for MSMEs. “In Japan, whoever wants to set up a MSME unit or for that matter any industry, they will have to fill in just 11 details and get the registration done at one go.

Whereas in India, they need to fill in 38 various application forms beside various other statutory compliances,” he pointed out.
D Chandra Sekhar, Director in MSME Ministry, said the government had established Udyog Aadhaar (UA) portal for the MSME sector.
