Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Monday instructed the authorities to prepare a separate action plan for implementation of ‘Haritha Haram’ in municipal corporations and other urban local bodies.

Reviewing the progress in the massive plantation drive launched recently with officials here, he said there was a need to increase green cover in view of increasing population in urban areas. Nearly 45 per cent of the State population is living in municipalities.

He asked officials to establish a Green Cell in every municipality and appoint forest and municipal officials as in-charges. The proposal to grant occupancy certificates to those who plant saplings and make it mandatory was also discussed at the meeting.

The CM directed officials to develop thick forests on the outskirts of the city and also flower orchards along the Outer Ring Road (ORR). The Chief Minister wanted identification of forest lands in every district and protect them from encroachments and improve forestry. He asked Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma to submit a detailed report on the status of Haritha Haram.
