Ashok Leyland to set up 500-cr plant in Telangana
Providing fillip to the automobile industry in the state, Ashok Leyland, the country’s second-largest commercial vehicle maker after Tata Motors, has zeroed in on Telangana to set up its assembling plant with an incremental investment of about Rs 500 crore.

However, the location for the plant will be decided later. “We are delighted to share that within three days after meeting Ashok Leyland’s Managing Director Vinod Dasari in Delhi, the company entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Telangana government today,” State IT, Industries and Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao tweeted on Monday.
The Hinduja group flagship company, which manufactures commercial vehicles such as trucks and buses, besides emergency and military vehicles, will invest Rs 500 crore in the Telangana facility in a phased manner and provide direct employment to over 1,000. An MoU to this effect was signed between Rama Rao and Dasari at the Chief Minister’s Camp Office on Monday.
“The auto industry in Telangana will be further strengthened by Ashok Leyland’s decision. Our government will persist to build the necessary supplier ecosystem for the plant, besides granting all approvals within 15 days,” Rao added.
Stating that his government is giving priority to procure vehicles manufactured in the State to meet the requirements of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), State Road Transport (RTC) and other departments, the Minister directed the RTC and Transport department officials to seek advice from Ashok Leyland on how to improve the mass-transport system in Telangana.
