Hyderabad: Low-cost airline GoAir flew into Hyderabad, adding the City of Pearls as its 23rd destination in the domestic aviation market. The no-frills carrier, a part of Mumbai-based Wadia group, is also in the process of adding six new aircraft, expanding its fleet to 26 by the end of the current fiscal, according to its Chief Executive Officer, Wolfgang Prock-Schauser.

The budget airline launched its daily Hyderabad-Chennai flight on Wednesday. It will launch daily non-stop flights, connecting the city to Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar and Kolkata later this month. Also, it will connect the city to Port Blair via Bengaluru, providing leisure travellers an additional travel option.

By adding Hyderabad, with its ideal geographical location, we reinforce our commitment towards connectivity across the country,” Prock-Schauser told the media here after announcing the launch of GoAir’s Hyderabad operations on Thursday. SGK Kishore, CEO, GMR Hyderabad International Airport, and other senior airport officials took part in the launch event.

This financial year, we will add six more aircraft, taking our fleet to 26 by March 2017,” he explained. Its existing fleet comprised 20 Airbus A320s and A320 neos.

Apart from consolidating its position domestic market, the airline is gearing up to launch its international operations in summer. “Our strategy for international foray is to tap underserved markets such as China and Iran besides Saudi Arabia and other nearby locations from India,” Prock-Schauser said.
