Hyderabad: Auto LPG sales in Telangana recorded a significant jump of 24.8 per cent following reduction in prices of the clean fuel. The state registered rise in sales volume from 1,378 MT to 1,716MT during September 16-December 16, according to a release from Indian Auto LPG Coalition (IAC), which is the nodal body for the promotion of Auto LPG in India.

Auto LPG sales, nationally, rose 16 per cent, while other regions showed different growth rates. Out of the 1,100 auto LPG stations in India, Telangana has 23 across five cities. "Leading oil companies such as Indian Oil, HPCL, and BPCL reduced the auto LPG price from October 2016. After the reduction, auto LPG costs about 50 per cent lower than petrol price. This has led to a 16 per cent jump in sales nationally during October-December 2016," said Suyash Gupta, Director General, IAC.

YK Gupta, president of IAC, further adds: "In view of global warming so apparent now, people should move to cleaner fuel. Its operating expenses are up to 50 per cent lower than petrol while cost of LPG vehicles lower than that of CNG." According to a recent study, LPG can quickly transported by tankers unlike CNG which takes several years to lay pipes.

The study further states that improving air quality is most significant contribution of Auto LPG where its emission level is 120 times lower than diesel. Globally, 26 million vehicles run on Auto LPG, It has emerged third largest selling fuel in the world, after petrol and diesel.
