Jharkhand has received investments totaling over Rs 3 lakh crore at its maiden global investors\' summit, which concluded here on Friday.

Hyderabad: Jharkhand has received investments totaling over Rs 3 lakh crore at its maiden global investors' summit, which concluded here on Friday. True to its character, the mineral-rich State attracted maximum investments in mining and allied segments which accounted for more than two-thirds of total investments.

“Jharkhand government signed 209 MoUs with investments totaling Rs 3.03 lakh crore in the two-day Momentum Jharkhand Global Investors’ Summit. The event evoked massive response from the investors in India and abroad. The investments received at the summit reflects true potential of the State,” Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha told the media here.

The investments are expected to generate direct employment opportunities of 2.09 lakh and 3.92 lakh indirect jobs. According to the Minister, the Department of Industries, Geology and Mines alone signed 121 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) which entail investments totaling Rs 2.10 lakh crore. The Department of Information Technology and E-Governance occupied with 30 MoUs, Rs 8,499 crore investment and 35,797 new direct jobs.

“The first investors’ organised by Jharkhand put it on global map and we expect the State to put its industrial development in fast-paced mode in coming years,” the Union Minister who hails from the State observed. More than 6,000 delegates from over 26 countries took part in the two-day event which witnessed a series of conferences on key growth sectors of the State. The Jharkhand also organised an exhibition to mark the occasion.

Meanwhile, software giant Microsoft India signed an MoU with Jharkhand Government at the investors’ summit to leverage cloud technologies to drive the State’s digital ambitions. Under this MoU, Microsoft will support the State government to explore cloud, machine learning and mobile-based solutions to improve citizen services and provide better facilities in the fields of education and agriculture.

“Over the past year, we have experimented with cloud, mobile and machine learning-based solutions for better citizen connect as well as to help students and farmers in India. We look forward to supporting Jharkhand in its effort to enhance citizen services and drive digital inclusion,” said Sanjeev Gupta, Country General Manager - Public Sector, Microsoft India.
