​Hyderabad: Trujet, the no-frills airline operated by city-based Turbo Megha Airways on Wednesday said it received Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from aviation regulator DGCA.

Turbo Megha Airways has been granted the AOC under the scheduled commuter operator (SCO) category, a senior official from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said.

The AOC will enable it to expand flight services to all metros in the country. Under the category, air operators are allowed to operate with aircraft having a maximum All Up Weight (AUW) not exceeding 40 tonnes.

Incidentally, Trujet is the first airline in the country to be awarded SCO permit and can now connect Nanded -Bombay route under UDAN scheme.

“We will now connect the underserved cities with the big metros and contribute towards the overall economic growth. We are very hopeful that the response will exceed our expectations,” said Vankayalapati Umesh, Managing Director, Turbo Megha Airways.

Turbo Megha is one of the five air operators which won bids to operate on 128 routes connecting 70 airports, of which 31 are unserved under the regional connectivity scheme – Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) - where fares are capped at Rs 2,500 for one hour flights.

The airline currently operates a set of ATR-72 aircrafts and has acquired the Forth aircraft of the same type. The latest aircraft will operate the new sectors, the company said in a release.
