New Delhi: Rice basmati prices strengthened by Rs 100 per quintal at the wholesale grains market today on increased buying by stockists due to pick up in demand. Wheat also traded higher on scattered demand from flour mills. Traders said persistent buying by stockists, driven by rising demand against restricted supplies from producing belts mainly kept rice basmati prices higher.

In the national capital, rice basmati common and Pusa- 1121 variety remained in demand and advanced by Rs 100 each to Rs 7,400-7,500 and Rs 6,100-6,400 per quintal, respectively. Wheat dara (for mills) also rose by Rs 10 to Rs 1,740- 1,745 per quintal. Atta chakki delivery followed suit and traded higher by a similar margin to Rs 1,745-1,750 per 90 kg. Sooji also edged up by Rs 10 to Rs 1,040-1,050 per 50 kg.
