Hyderabad: Hotels and Restaurants Association of Telangana State (HRATS) has expressed its concern over 28 percent GST being imposed on this sector. The apex body representing the 3-star to 5-star deluxe hotels and few first-class restaurants in Telangana further alleged that the higher tax rate will erode the tourism potential in the country particularly country’s youngest state.

HRATS is affiliated to Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI). HRATS has organised a round table on GST for the hospitality sector in the city. Somesh Kumar, Principal Secretary (GST &Excise), and Sai Kishore, Dy Commissioner, and representatives from the several hotels took part in the meeting.

MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and expositions) business corporate and social events though corporates, travel agents, event managers is being feared to be lost to Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore, as the rooms with bundled services would attract 28 percent GST, which will not be eligible for ITC also. This problem of no Input tax credit (ITC) will also be faced by corporates too who don’t have a TS registration.”
