Hyderabad: ICICI Academy for Skills, an institute established by ICICI Foundation, has so far trained 7,300 unemployed youth in Telangana free of cost. Nearly 50 per cent of them are women.

The Foundation, a corporate social responsibility arm of ICICI Bank, established its state-of-the-art skill development centre in the city in 2013 to offer free training to unemployed youth from underprivileged sections of the society. It equips them with job-oriented skills in three areas: selling skills, retail sales and office administration.

“Since inception, we have trained over 7,300 unemployed youth from Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana, with 100 per cent placement. They are drawing salaries starting from Rs 10,000. Some of them earn as much as Rs 25,000 per month on an average”, a senior official involved in the training said.

People trained at the institute have predominantly been absorbed in diverse sectors like automobile, banking and retail. The institute has sufficient infrastructure to train 650 members every three months, taking the total yearly intake to 2,600. It runs 14 batches simultaneously for the three-month training programme.

Unemployed youth from poor background with education qualification from 10th to degree and aged between 18 and 30 years are eligible for the training. The institute offers free lunch for all the participants while outstation candidates can avail free hostel facility provided under Telangana government’s Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA).
