Hyderabad: The non-functioning of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) website is causing a delay in filing returns and slowing down the tax payment process. Majority of the dealers and retailers complain that the ‘Dashboard’ page, wherein the expenditure and income inputs are uploaded, is not appearing.

“We are not facing any hassle in registering new businesses or dealers, but the already established entities are not able to shift to the new taxation system nor are the people who are registered able to pay the tax before deadline because the website is crashing. I alone have more than 80 such cases, wherein the registrations are still pending,” said a Sales Tax Practitioner (STP) at Gaganvihar building.

According to the Commercial Tax department, almost 6,700 complaints have been registered till now and majority of them are related to the non-function of the website or registration hassles. Somesh Kumar, Principal Secretary to State (CT and Excise), said, “Every day more than 100 people call on the helpline and most of them are people who have trouble logging-in or registration issues.

The people who delay the tax payment have to pay a penalty of the interest rate at 18per cent per year.” He also said that everyone wants to pay the tax at the last moment and no site can take such a heavy load. “Since the GST has been introduced, I’m roaming around the commercial tax building because I haven’t been registered yet in the new taxation system.

My work is being interrupted because I don’t have a GST number and the retailer is not releasing the amount. I’ve visited my tax practitioner for eight times this week yet my registration hasn’t been successful,” said Gopal, a glassware dealer.

Anil Kumar, Commissioner of Commercial Tax, said that around 1, 96,000 entities have been registered for GST till now. “We only have the information about the migrant registrations, the new registrations’ information hasn’t been updated by the Centre yet,” he added.

The Commercial Tax department is also gearing up to officially launch the Android App called TGST, wherein one can take pictures of the fraud bills and upload it.
