Hyderabad: City-based Visaka Industries Limited, a leading manufacturer of fibre cement boards, on Thursday announced its foray into rooftop solar energy segment by launching Atum, an integrated solar roofing panel that generates electricity.

“Atum serves all the functions of a traditional roof, while at the same time generates solar energy. It has a cement base which reduces the thermal conductivity by more than 50 times compared to that of a traditional metal roof,” Vamsi Gaddam, Joint Managing Director, Visaka Industries, told the media here on Thursday.

He further said that Atum’s design would be unique. “What sets Atum apart from any other solar roofing system in the market is its unique design. Instead of being mounted on a bulky rack system over the roof, Atum provides customers a sleek and simple integrated solar roofing system that increases efficiency by a whopping 20 per cent,” he explained.

The company will manufacture the innovative product at its facility in Miryalguda. The plant with an annual installed capacity of 60 megawatt, is expected to commence commercial operations in two to three months.

On the company's performance, he said Visaka ended last financial year with a turnover of Rs 970. "We are looking forward to cross Rs 1,000 crore mark this financial year," he claimed.
