The Tucson 4WD gets no cosmetic changes. The Tucson 4WD comes only in the 2.0-litre diesel AT GLS variant. Hyundai calls the 4WD technology as Intellimatic 4WD. The 4WD system comes with ‘On-Demand 4WD Functioning’ which automatically implements rear wheel traction control by determining road conditions and maintaining traction on loose, rough and slippery surfaces while improving stability while cornering. When driving in the 4WD mode, the system determines if there is a need for 4WD functioning based on the terrain and engine driving and automatically sends power to all the 4 wheels without having the driver to intervene. 4WD SUVs are generally known to be less fuel-efficient, but not in the case of Tucson 4WD.

The ‘On-Demand 4WD Functioning’ system ensures better fuel-efficiency as the system intelligently switches the 4WD on/off by itself leading to better performance and lesser wear and tear of mechanical parts. The Tucson’s 4WD system also comes with 4WD Lock Mode and Advanced Traction Cornering Control (ATCC) of which, the former helps in the activation of the 4WD system manually based on the driver’s inputs, resulting in a torque split of 50:50 between the front and rear wheels. The ATCC helps in transferring torque to the wheels which have the most grip. The Hyundai Tucson 4WD comes powered by the same 2.0-litre diesel motor that produces 185 HP of power and 400 Nm of torque. The oil-burner comes mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The Creta-maker is also offering other safety features like Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), Hill Assist Control (HAC), Down Hill Brake Control (DBC) and Brake Assist on all Tucson automatic variants.
