Hyderabad: RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group on Monday signed an agreement with Telangana government on setting up a food processing unit in the State. The proposed unit will come up at Toopran in Sidhipet district and produce e-Vita and Too Yumm brands of low-calorie snacks.

The group will also take up other initiatives in the State such as extending cooperation to farmers in selling their produce. It’ll invest Rs200 crore here, while Srei Infrastructure has also evinced interest in expanding in Telangana, according to a statement.

Telangana Industries and Commerce Minister KT Rama Rao, IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan and other officials were in Kolkata on Monday and participated in a CII event. He held discussions with RP-Sanjiv Goenka group, Emami, Srei and Keventer.

While Sanjiv Goenka discussed the possibility of setting up a packaged foods unit, Emami's joint chairman R S Goenka talked of cement, bio-fuel and FMCG facilities and the Kanorias of Srei discussed infrastructure financing prospects.

KTR made a request to Sanjiv Goenka for extending support to farmers in food processing and packaging segments. KTR thanked Goenka for its decision to invest in Telangana.

“RPG’s food processing unit will come up on 20 acres at Toopran and will generate over 1,000 jobs directly. The company is investing Rs200 cr in the state. It has also agreed to set up facilities in villages for selling agricultural products at market prices,” said KTR.

Later KTR met Hemanth Kanoria, Chairman, Srei Infrastructure, and briefed him about business potential in the State and Make in Telangana initiative, while inviting him to take part in infrastructure projects being taken up by the State government.

“We intended to meet these groups as they were expanding beyond West Bengal. It is our duty to attract outbound investments from other states into Telangana,” said KTR told the media on the sidelines of CII meeting.
